JOHN DAVID SIDLEY Stand-up comic John David Sidley puts his focus on the audience The quantum leap of comedy came the night John David Sidley looked at the audience sitting in the dark and thought to himself: "I don't give a damn if I ever become rich or famous or have my own sitcom, I just want to make these people laugh." For stand-up comic and comedy writer John David Sidley, that night marked his turning point from part-time amateur to the ranks of professional comics. Sidley puts his focus on the audience - whether they're at a comedy club, a corporate function or a neighborhood tavern. It doesn't matter if it's a crowd of 30 or 300, Sidley just wants to make them laugh...and he does. Substance and style... "Next time you're watching stand-up comics on TV, hit the mute button," Sidley says. "Don't they look good? They know how to move on stage. But... then listen to them. Where's the material? Where's the thought? Where's the comedy beef?" With a strong background as a comedy writer, Sidley brings his unique creativity and power to his shows. He's written gags for national comics, deejays and some of his peers - before he ever hit the stage himself. He won the Writer's Foundation America's Best national comedy writing award, has several network scripts under consideration and is represented in Los Angeles by The Maris Agency, a Writer's Guild of America (WGA) endorsed agency. Let 'em see you sweat... Sidley's passion is apparent on stage and blends with his creative and thought-provoking comedy. He has combined solid substance with an enthusiastic style. "After a show, I'm tired. And that's good. It means I've given the audience everything I've got. I like to move on stage - use my arms and body. I feel what I'm saying. One of my comedy influences is Alan King. You can feel his passion, and I like that. I believe it's OK to let 'em see you sweat." Overnight success-after a few years of work... For more than a decade, John David Sidley has been a comedy writer and occasional performer. He has since gone on to become a regular on the stand-up comedy scene in Northern Ohio, where he continues to create strong, new material for his ever-evolving performances. Thanks to his discipline and maturity as a successful writer, he also brings complete professionalism to his work. He prepares, he's always on time, and he's thorough. And - tired or not - he'll be at the door saying thanks to each member of the audience. For more information on John David Sidley, call (440) 243-1378. |
